Marching Band – The PRIDE of Liberty

The Pride of Liberty consists of all wind instruments, percussion, and color guard. This group is strictly extra-curricular. There is a fee associated with this group to offset the cost of travel, staffing, design, copyright permissions, music writing, drill writing, uniform maintenance and purchases, and food. Fundraising is available but kept to a minimum to avoid burnout. This group is open to students in grades 7 through 12.

Symphonic Band

The LHS Symphonic Band is the main vehicle for music education in the LHS Band Program. It is expected that students will do all they can to be in this ensemble. In a small school, it is inevitable that scheduling conflicts will occur. However, if Symphonic Band conflicts with a required singleton class, the student should sign up for another band class (Jazz Band, Percussion, Guard) so they may keep up with the band class for performances and continue to receive a quality music education.

The LHS Symphonic Band performs three concerts annually as listed above. The goal for each concert is different. The Winter Concert will feature holiday classics and challenging literature to push the band’s limits. The Pre-Concert Festival Concert is intended to showcase appropriate literature that the band can truly perfect in their assessment for SCBDA judges in March. The Spring Concert acts as a “Pops” concert often featuring fun, yet challenging music.

 Jazz Band

The Liberty High School Jazz'Manian Devils (Jazz Ensemble) The Liberty Jazz'Manian Devils perform every winter and spring, and performs at the State Jazz Festival at Newberry College in the Spring. Additional performances may also occur throughout the year. All rehearsals are mandatory and will occur during the school day or after school. Membership is open to any student at Liberty High School or Liberty Middle School with the approval of the assistant band director.

Percussion Ensemble

The Percussion Ensemble meets during the school day and performs on the Spring Concert. Music is selected to challenge percussionists beyond what they experience in typical band literature. All percussion students are expected to sign up for Percussion class.

Red Devil Drumline (Basketball Drumline) The Red Devil Drumline is an integral part of the basketball experience at Liberty High School. Members perform at all boys and girls games and home playoff games. Attendance is expected at all rehearsals as well as every performance. Membership is open to any member of the PRIDE of Liberty with the approval of the assistant band director.

Winter Guard

The LHS Winter Guard Program is held from November through March each school year. Winter Guard consists of color guard members and others that are interested in learning about Guard. This can include other band and non-band students. The guard focuses on exciting performances based on dance, movements with rifles, sabers, and flags to recorded music. Special costuming and props are also used. This group will compete at several local competitions and possibly CWEA Championships in Rock Hill, SC. The Winter Guard Program allows students to expand their dance and movement skills – which in turn, improve the quality of performance of the marching band’s color guard. A fee is assessed to each student to offset the costs of conducting this extra-curricular activity.
