Light up a Life Scholarship

Applicants must 

  • be the child of a current employee of Prisma Health or be the child or grandchild of an active Prisma Health volunteer or be an active teen Prisma Health volunteer
  • be a high school senior
  • have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in math and science
  • plan to attend an accredited college, university or technical school during the summer or fall immediately after high school
  • plan to pursue an Associate or Baccalaureate Degree in a healthcare profession
  • demonstrate financial need, traits of high personal character and leadership

The deadline is March 25, 2020 at 5:00 pm.

The South Carolina Education Association Retired annually awards the scholarship to encourage promising young people to prepare for careers in education at an accredited four-year college or university or a two year technical school in South Carolina.  The amount of the scholarship is $1,000 and will be awarded for four-years if the applicants continue to meet the guidelines.

To be eligible a student must:

  • be a graduating senior
  • plan to attend a four-year accredited college or university or two year technical school in South Carolina
  •  plan for and pursue a career in education
  • have maintained a good high school academic record and maintain a 3.0 while attending a South Carolina college, university or technical school.
  • demonstrate leadership abilities
  •  need financial assistance

The William B. and Lela P. Earle Scholarship

The scholarship was established by William B. Earle Jr. to honor his parents, William B. and Lela P Earle.  It will be awarded by the trust for as much as full tuition for four year and $100 for books. The scholarship will not provide room, board, transportation or other expenses.

Priority is given to applicants from the Tamassee area of Oconee County and second priority is given to all Oconee and Pickens County students. 

It is a requirement of the scholarship that the recipient complete courses in art appreciation, music appreciation and comparative religion before the beginning of the senior year of college, with a grade of at least a C in each course.

NAFEPA Scholarship Program

High School students who are on track to graduate in the Spring of 2020 are eligible to apply for the NAFEPA scholarship.  Candidates will be nominated by the NAFEPA affiliate state organization or representative.  Each state may select one candidate to nominate for the national scholarship program. 

Interested students should see Mrs. Burgess or Mrs. Latham for application.  The deadline is Monday, January 27, 2020.

South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers Foundation

Three awards will be presented totaling $7000.

Eligibility

 

  1.  Be a graduating senior
  2. Parents or Legal Guardians must have been SC residents for at least one year.
  3. Must have a recommendation from the principal.
  4. Must attend college, university or technical school in SC.
  5. Applicant must be of good moral character.

Upstate SC PFLAG Scholarship Program

The Greenville SC chapter of PFLAG is pleased to offer scholarships to graduating high school seniors who will be continuing their education. Each scholarship is to be a one-time award of $1,000 each. Each applicant may be awarded only one scholarship.

While parental support and consent is desirable when applying to the Upstate SC PFLAG Scholarship Program, it is not a requirement.

To be eligible for consideration, you must meet the following requirements:

1. Be a graduating high school senior entering an institute of higher education this fall, whether a college or vocational/technical program.

2. Identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, or a straight ally.

3. Demonstrate support of and/or service to the LGBTQ+ community.

4. Have a minimum GPA of 3.0

5. Have been accepted by an accredited secondary educational institution (4 year college, community college, or vocational school) Interested students should see Mrs. Burgess or Mrs. Latham for an application. the deadline is May 1, 2020.

The Dr. Charles T. Battle Memorial Scholarship Fund has been established to encourage high scholarship among youth in the upstate counties and to honor the life and legacy of the late Dr. Battle who lived and practiced in Seneca, and whose contributions to this community are universally hailed as exemplary. Dr. Battle was the first African American admitted to the medical staff of the Oconee Memorial Hospital in 1956 and was named emeritus in January 1997. Brother Battle was the first African American doctor to receive visiting privileges at the Oconee County Hospital. Governor David Beasley bestowed upon him the Order of the Palmetto, the highest honor accorded a private citizen of South Carolina. Among his honors and recognition is the Order of the Palmetto, bestowed by Governor David Beasley. Dr. Battle died in 1998 at the age of 79.
Rho Delta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, the first intercollegiate Black Greek Lettered fraternity established for African American Men, is pleased to offer the Charles T. Battle Scholarship again this year..
Each year we give away one or more $1000.00 scholarships (pending funding) to deserving high school seniors in memory of our beloved brother.
To complete this application you will need to submit an essay answering the question "How will this scholarship will help me further my career goals". Please include career plans and how you will give back to the community. (1000 word max) and uploading one letter of recommendation from a teacher of school administrator.

Seniors:  To apply for the 
Jack Kent Cooke Foundation College Scholarship Program you must:

•Graduate from a U.S. high school in spring 2020
•Intend to enroll full time in an accredited four-year college beginning in fall 2020
•Earn a cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.5 or above
•Receive standardized test scores of either an SAT Total Score of 1200 and above OR an ACT Composite Score of 26 or above
•Demonstrate unmet financial need. We will consider applicants with family income up to $95,000. Last year’s cohort of new college scholarship recipients had a median family income of approximately $35,000.

The Hampton Wildlife Fund offers four scholarships to South Carolina seniors. An application and criteria for each is available online at www.hamptonwildlifefund.org/scholarship.html.

1. For the Harry Hampton Scholarship and the 2. Wallace F. Pate Scholarship students must pursue a degree in the natural resources discipline such as wildlife biology, fisheries biology, forestry or marine science.  
3. For the David M. Cline Scholarship, students must pursue a degree in law enforcement, criminal justice or forensic science. 
4. For the James O. Thomason Scholarship, students must pursue a degree in print or photo journalism, advertising, public relations, or mass communications.

Seniors are invited to apply for an Arts scholarship at the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio. These scholarships are competitive and worth up to $10,000 over four years. Incoming first-year, full-time students who enroll in a four-year program in Art and Design or Theatre, Dance and Performance Technology are eligible to apply.

The Elks National Foundation (ENF) Legacy Awards – The Legacy Awards program begins on September 1, 2019.  Legacy Awards provide $4,000 scholarships for children and grandchildren of dues-paying Elk members. The ENF offers a total of 300 national awards.  The Legacy Awards application is entirely online. The application deadline is January 31, 2020 at 11:59 a.m., Central Time. Most Valuable Student (MVS) Contest: 
The 2020 MVS application is now open. Applications can be found online at www.enf.elks.org/MVS.  The application deadline is November 5, 2019.   

The Elks National Foundation (ENF) awards 500 four-year scholarships based on scholarship, leadership, and financial need. National awards range from $1,000 per year to $12,500 per year. The national awards are announced in April 2020. Pendleton Elks Lodge 2861 offers two scholarships each year. 

 MVS scholarships are for students pursuing a four-year degree on a full-time basis (minimum of 12 semester hours), at a U.S. college or university. 
Eligible applicants include: ★ Current high school seniors (or equivalent) who are citizens of the United States. ★ Applicants do not have to be related to a member of the Elks, nor do they have to have an affiliation with Pendleton Elks Lodge 2861. ★ Male and female students compete separately.

The South Carolina Junior Golf Foundation offers scholarship aid to deserving students who meet certain academic criteria.


Applicants must:

Be seniors in a SC High School or undergraduates in a SC college or university.

Have a 2.75 GPA on a 4.0.

Be residents of SC.

Have a competitive or recreational interest in golf.

Attend an accredited public or private, four year college or university in SC in the fall of 2020.

Any senior who is a legal resident of South Carolina planning to major in Education in college as a freshman in the fall of 2020, may apply for the the South Carolina Teaching Fellows Program. Fellowships are based on academic achievement, references, community and school involvement, an interview and a writing assessment. Students must attend one of the eleven Teaching Fellows Institutions. Currently, these include Anderson University, Charleston Southern University, Clemson University, Coastal Carolina University, College of Charleston, Francis Marion University, Lander University, USC Aiken, USC Columbia, USC Upstate, and Winthrop University.  The application is available on the CERRA web site at https://www.cerra.org/teaching-fellows-application.html.
