Applications for the 2021 Pickens Conty Farm Bureau are now being accepted.

Application Criterion:
  1.  Must be residents of Pickens County and a member of the Pickens County Farm Bureau
  2. Must show agricultural involvement

The STOP THE BLEED Frontline Families Scholarships are open to high school students that had a parent or guardian on the front lines within the past year.  The Deadline is May 8, 2021.  Visit to apply.

The Faith, Hope, Love Jesus Scholarship is open to childhood cancer and blood disorder survivors.  The deadline is May 5, 2021.  Visit to apply.

The Pedro Zamora Young Leaders Scholarship  and the Mary Bowman Arts in Activism Award are for those that are interesting in mitigating the impact of HIV/Aids.  The deadline for both applications is July 15, 2021.  Visit or to apply.



The SC Bar Senior Lawyers Division is hosting the 2020 Statewide Law Day Essay Contest
Open to all High School Students
The theme of the essay contest is “Advancing the Rule of Law NOW”
Awards range in $500 - $1,000!!!

Detailed Information As Follows:

The annual Senior Division of the S.C. Bar Association's Law Day Essay Contest provides a wonderful opportunity to learn about our legal system, justice, get creative, and win money simply by writing an essay of 1,000 words or less.

The Law Day 2021 theme is "Advancing the Rule of Law NOW". The rule of law is a set of principles, or ideals, for ensuring an orderly and just society. Many countries throughout the world strive to uphold the rule of law where no one is above the law, everyone is treated equally under the law, everyone is held accountable to the same laws, there are clear and fair processes for enforcing laws, there is an independent judiciary, and human rights are guaranteed for all.

Eligibility: The Law Day Essay Contest is open to all students attending a public or private high school, or being home schooled, within South Carolina who are in grades 9-12.

Entry Deadline: June 4, 2021, by noon.

The Guidance Office has received applications for the Charlie C. Hagood Scholarship. This one-time $2,000 scholarship will be awarded to a Pickens County Senior who plans to attend a four-year college or university and major in Human Services. Interested students should see Mrs. Burgess or Mrs. Latham for an application. The deadline is May 10, 2021

Ellevation has established a scholarship program to assist students who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance, and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team. Awards for this scholarship are granted to eligible recipients without regard to creed, religion, sexual orientation, age, disability, or national origin.

Applicants of the Ellevation Education Scholarship Program must:

  • High school seniors who have been enrolled as an English Language Learner (ELL) at some point during their K-12 education.
  • Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.

Children of employees of Ellevation are ineligible to apply.  The deadline is May 4, 2021.

Seniors planning to attend Tri County Technical College this fall are encouraged to apply for TCTC's foundation scholarships.  Applications are due April 24, 2021.

Seniors planning to enter college with a major in Education are invited to apply to the Ronald N. Wearing Memorial Scholarship. Applications are due April 21, 2021. For more information and to apply visit


Seniors are invited to apply for the Bufort B and Sudie K McKelvey Scholarship. 
Requirements include  
  • A high school transcript (If your transcript does not include a 12th grade summary, please forward a copy of your final report card.) 
  • Two (2) letters of recommendation (We suggest a faculty member and another adult from outside the school setting.) 
  • Official documentation of ACT and/or SAT scores for students entering freshmen year of college/technical school. 
  • Completed application form - see Mrs. Burgess or Latham for an application 
  • A letter to the committee stating why you need or deserve this scholarship.   

Considerations for Scholarship Award are: 

  1. Financial need 
  2. Academic ability and motivation to be successful in college 
  3. Outstanding character and citizenship 
  4. Awards apply only to undergraduate students 

Without the full completion of the above requests, your application may not be considered.
Deadline for submittal/receipt of applications is April 5, 2021.

2021 Heart of a Champion Scholarship
Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative is sponsoring the 2021 Foothills Area FCA Heart of a Champion Scholarships for Senior students in the Tri-County area.
Scholarships in the amount of $500 will be awarded to one male student and one female student from each county. These scholarships are one time non- renewable scholarships awarded for the student's Freshman year. They are NOT limited to athletes only, however the student must be a current Senior and be an active member of their campus FCA huddle.

The Thumbs Up Guys Scholarship

We are excited to announce our annual $3,000 scholarship, which is available to college students in South Carolina who have been accepted to or are currently enrolled in a 2-year college or 4- year university with a GPA of at least 3.0.
Eligibility and application details are below:
  • Applicants must be college students in South Carolina, with a GPA of at least 3.0, who have been accepted to or are currently enrolled in a 2-year college or 4- year university.
  • Three students will be selected to receive $1,000 in scholarship funds based on their winning essay response.
  • To enter, applicants are encouraged to submit via form on our website.
  • The deadline for submissions is April 30th, 2021. The winner will be notified individually and announced on our social media between May 17th-21st, 2021.

Seniors planning to attend any public or private accredited four-year college or university in the fall are invited to apply for the Dr. Charlotte Kay Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is limited to LHS seniors and will be awarded based primarily on financial need. Other considerations will be academic achievement, essays, letter of recommendations and scholastic aptitude. See Mrs. Burgess or Mrs. Latham for an application. Applications are due by March 12, 2021.

Seniors planning to attend college in SC in the Fall of 2021 are invited to apply for the South Carolina Federal Credit Union's scholarship program.  The deadline is Feb 3, 2021. Nine students attending college in South Carolina for the fall 2021 semester will win a total of $45,000 in scholarships.

The South Carolina Education Association Retired annually awards the scholarship to encourage promising young people to prepare for careers in education at an accredited four-year college or university in South Carolina.  The amount of the scholarship is $1,000.

To be eligible a student must: 

  • be a graduating senior 
  • plan to attend a SACS accredited college, university, technical school, or community college in South Carolina as a full-time student
  •  plan for and pursue a career in education 
  • have maintained a good high school academic record
  • demonstrate leadership abilities 
  •  need financial assistance

For over 20 years, the South Carolina State Fair has awarded scholarships to students across the state of South Carolina. Students may apply at  The application opens February 1 and the deadline is March 15, 2021.

This scholarship is available to any student in South Carolina who is a senior in a public or private high school or home school.  The student must be planning to attend a public or private college, university, or technical college in the state of South Carolina.

 The South Carolina State Fair will award fifty (50) $6000 scholarships to students across the state to be paid at the rate of $1500 per year over a four year period.  The fifty 2020 scholars will be required to meet eligibility requirements deemed necessary by the South Carolina State Fair. 


The Jackie Robinson Foundation scholarship application is now available!

The Jackie Robinson Foundation provides four-year scholarships of $30,000 and extensive support services, including career guidance and internship placement, to highly motivated African American students.

Most Valuable Student (MVS) Contest: 

The 2021 MVS application is now open. Applications can be found online at  The application deadline is November 15, 2020.   

The Elks National Foundation (ENF) awards 500 four-year scholarships based on scholarship, leadership, and financial need. National awards range from $1,000 per year to $12,500 per year.  Pendleton Elks Lodge 2861 offers two scholarships each year. 

 MVS scholarships are for students pursuing a four-year degree on a full-time basis (minimum of 12 semester hours), at a U.S. college or university. 

Judging Criteria: 
Financial Need

Eligible applicants include:  Current high school seniors (or equivalent) who are citizens of the United States. 


The Hampton Wildlife Fund offers four scholarships to South Carolina seniors. An application and criteria for each is available online at

1. For the Harry Hampton Scholarship and the 2. Wallace F. Pate Scholarship students must pursue a degree in the natural resources discipline such as wildlife biology, fisheries biology, forestry or marine science.  
3. For the David M. Cline Scholarship, students must pursue a degree in law enforcement, criminal justice or forensic science. 
4. For the James O. Thomason Scholarship, students must pursue a degree in print or photo journalism, advertising, public relations, or mass communications. 

The deadline to apply is February 26, 2021


Students are invited to apply for an Arts scholarship at the University of Dayton in Ohio. These scholarships are competitive and worth up to $10,000 over four years. Incoming first-year, full-time students who enroll in a four-year program in Art and Design, Music or Theatre, Dance and Performance Technology are eligible to apply.

The deadline to apply for an Arts scholarship is Sunday, November 1, 2020.

TEDxYouth@Columbia is hosting a free, virtual College and Scholarship Fair on Saturday, October 24 from 2 to 5 PM. The CollegeFair will feature 20+ schools such as USC, USC Honors, Clemson, Claflin, Furman, Midlands Tech, Winthrop, and Wofford, as well as national scholarship programs including Coca-Cola Scholars and the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation.   • Emory & Henry College in Virginia announces new scholarships:
    • NEW Merit Scholarships: $23,000 in scholarships are available for those with a 3.5 GPA and above—one of the highest in the ODAC and the largest academic merit scholarship to be offered in E&H History!

STEM Scholarships at Norwich University
The Norwich S-STEM Scholarship Program Norwich University is proud to partner with the National Science Foundation to offer new students who major in one of six STEM fields (biology, biochemistry, chemistry, neuroscience, math or physics) the opportunity to compete for a National Science Foundation-funded scholarship. Scholarships are valued up to $4,000 for a first year student, can increase in value during each successive year a student remains eligible, up to a maximum value of $10,000 per year.

The South Carolina Junior Golf Foundation offers scholarship aid to deserving students who meet certain academic criteria.

Applicants must:

Be seniors in a SC High School or undergraduates in a SC college or university.

Have a 2.75 GPA on a 4.0 through the spring 2020 semester.

Be residents of SC.

Have a competitive or recreational interest in golf.

Attend an accredited public or private, four year college or university in SC in the fall of 2020.

Not So Scary FAFSA Party at Tri-County Tech
The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) for the upcoming 2021-2022 academic year will open October 1, 2020. Students and parents will use 2019 tax data to complete this FAFSA. The OppU Achievers Scholarship celebrates achievement in its many forms and honors those who create opportunity for themselves and others.  The scholarship was founded in 2016 and only requires a short essay to apply!  For an idea of what their review committee is looking for, take a look at these  scholarship essay examples from past recipients.
Winners are selected four times a year, with submission deadlines on September 30, December 31, March 31 and June 30.

2021 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards

Now in its 26th year, The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, sponsored by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), provides a wide range of opportunities to amplify the stories of today’s young changemakers - and the schools that have supported them along the way. Open to students in grades 5-12 who have participated in a volunteer activity within the past year, top honorees from all 50 states and the District of Columbia are eligible to receive a scholarship, medallion and invitation to the program’s national recognition events.

The Heisman Trophy Trust teams up with Acceptance Insurance to present the Heisman High School Scholarship.

Senior scholar-athletes are encouraged to apply for the Heisman High School Scholarship. The 2020 application is now open.

The Heisman Trophy Trust and Acceptance Insurance, a leading provider of personal automobile insurance and other related products, today announced a new partnership between the two organizations to recognize high school student-athletes throughout the country for their academic and athletic achievements as well as their community service. Clemson University

The Lyceum Scholars Program at Clemson University offers $10,000 scholarships to study the moral, political, and economic foundations of a free society. 

This program is an integrated eight-course sequence that Lyceum Scholars take together as an intellectual cohort. The Lyceum Scholars Program uses a great books approach to discuss timeless questions such as:

  • What makes a society free? 
  • What is the relationship between moral character and a free society?
  • What are the principles of the American founding?

Students interested in becoming Lyceum Scholars should apply in their senior year of high school to Clemson University and to the Lyceum Scholars Program. Legacy Awards – The Legacy Awards program begins on September 1st.  Legacy Awards provide $4,000 scholarships for children and grandchildren of dues-paying Elk members.
